Common sense about use of thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA)

1. Falling and breakage of sample rack

(1) The sample rack falls off

(2) The sample rack is broken or the sample crucible is placed reversely on the rack

2. Abnormal fluctuation of TG curve

During daily test of TG, the TG curve may have sawtooth peaks occasionally, which is mainly caused by the following factors:

(1) If there is any vibration source during sample test;

(2) If the gas filter is clogged.

3. Decrease of TG test reliability

(1) If the exhaust pipe on the stove cover and the balance bracket are clean;

(2) After long-period test, some residuals produced after sample decomposition may adhere to the bracket rod, affecting the TG test reliability.

4. The thermostatic water bath beeps or the circulating water filter becomes green

During sample test, the thermostatic water bath may beep sometimes. In such case, it is required to power off the water bath, check if the water in the thermostatic water bath buries the water pump, and fill a suitable amount of pure ware when necessary. If the circulating water filter becomes green, it shall be replaced. Normally, the filter element of water bath shall be cleaned regularly once every 2-3 months, and must be cleaned with tap water first, and then cleaned ultrasonically for about 1 hour.
