Common sense about use of scanning electron microscope

1. Before the scanning electron microscope starts, check the power supply, temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions of laboratory; the scanning electron microscope can start when the power voltage is table, the room temperature is 21±5℃ and the humidity is 65%.

2. Upon start, first power on and stabilize the water circulator for half an hour to optimize the instrument energy. Turn on the regulated power supply, then power on the scanning electron microscope and the computer in sequence, next activate the software on the operation platform of scanning electron microscope, and finally in the acquisition menu/ test setting/ operation diagnosis/ alignment, check if the maximum value is about 6 and the minimum value is about 3.

3. Sample preparation: Formulate the relevant sample preparation methods, and prepare the samples according to the characteristics and status of samples.

4. Keep the laboratory quiet and tidy, and never do the chemical processing of sample in the laboratory; after the test completes, take out the samples in the sample chamber. The door and window of sample chamber shall be opened and closed gently to prevent the scanning electron microscope from damage due to vibration. 

5. To shut down the instrument, it is required to deactivate the software, then power off the scanning electron microscope, and next refit its dust cover.

6. Before leaving the laboratory, it is required to turn off the lamps, the air conditioner and the master switch in sequence.
